Who we support

Business Managers

Stewarding financial and operational integrity

Business managers carry significant responsibility for financial stewardship, operational integrity, school growth and regulatory assurance.

CEN supports business managers to steward resources wisely, strengthen governance systems, and support the long-term sustainability of Christian schools. We bring sector-specific financial insight, governance frameworks, and trusted advisory support that help you meet regulatory expectations, support boards and associations, and enable the mission of your school.

Why CEN makes practical sense

From governance standards and performance tools to leadership development and crisis support, CEN exists to help you steward resources wisely while protecting the long-term health and integrity of your school.

Access to governance resources and advisory support reduces friction between boards, associations, and executive teams. Shared language improves reporting efficiency, decision clarity, and trust, particularly during periods of pressure or change. As the company secretary or public officer, the business manager plays a key role in supporting board compliance and function.

CEN understands this ‘dual reporting’ (to both principal and board) and has a wide range of resources specifically for parent-governed boards.CEN’s support positions you to guide, while also honouring your board.

For many schools, the cost of membership is modest compared to the financial and reputational impact of a single compliance oversight, governance failure, or poorly supported executive decision.

Shared governance frameworks and assurance tools reduce regulatory exposure and support defensible decision-making during audits and registration reviews.

Rather than building systems in isolation, CEN business managers operate with the support of collegial networks,  with access to reporting and governance frameworks that boards recognise and trust.

For CEN schools, strategy is centred on discerning God’s plan and seeking his wisdom about the future. That makes CEN a key partner for boards and leaders when approaching the strategic planning process.

CEN strategic planning is cost-effective while also effectively assisting schools to determine insightful goals and direction.

The Somerset Annual Financial Survey is included in CEN membership, and encouraged for all schools. The survey provides an external lens on your school’s financial viability data and provides a detailed report on any apparent risks or trends that are emerging.

Participation in the Annual Financial Survey provides benchmarking against comparable Christian schools, not broad sector averages.

This supports:

  • clearer board reporting
  • stronger budget modelling
  • analysis of key ratios and trends
  • earlier identification of sustainability risk

For many schools, this insight improves the quality of financial conversations at board level.

Where deeper analysis or independent perspective is required, CEN offers confidential, carefully scoped consulting support at a discounted rate for member schools.

These engagements are designed to strengthen decision-making, reporting confidence, and long-term sustainability, and are quoted separately to ensure clarity of purpose and cost.

CEN connects business managers into peer networks and sector-specific learning including business managers network meetings, executive and governance conferences, state gatherings, and national events. These connections provide practical insight and reduce isolation, particularly in smaller or regional schools.

Beyond day-to-day operations

CEN schools operate on the basis that Christ is central to all we do, and to be honoured in everything.

This means financial stewardship, governance practice, and mission are treated as integrated responsibilities rather than competing priorities.

This provides business managers with sector insight and context that supports better long-term planning and clearer board conversations.
