Planning effective meetings is integral to board effectiveness and good governance. This isn’t just a matter of protocols and practices, but these practicalities underpin quality decision-making, unity, and culture. The board meeting is where the work of the board occurs – it is the (reasonably infrequent) opportunity for the board to discuss and discern matters; to make decisions and provide guidance to management. It is also where the board interacts in relationship, so it is the key way they set the culture of the school.

The AGM is about honouring the proper authority of the school. It is a chance for the parents to fulfil their task of responsibility for the school, and for the board and senior leaders to report on the school’s progress and the state of affairs. There is a mutuality to this – the board both leads and submits to the association. AGMs can be intimidating though, and involve governance ways and lingo we don’t use anywhere else. Join the webinar to hear from some governance gurus on the not-so-basics of board and association meetings.
