Secondary Learning Assistant Position

Mount Evelyn Christian School has a part-time position (0.5 – 0.85 FTE) available for a Learning Assistant (Teacher’s Aide) in our Secondary School, commencing as soon as possible.

MECS is looking for a Learning Assistant to join the growing Learning Support team in the Senior Secondary section of MECS.  The role is to support one or two identified students in the Vocational Majors program (formerly VCAL) 3 days per week.  The ability to build effective relationships is vital in this role, and some knowledge and/or experience of supporting students living with autism would be helpful. There is possibility for extension of employment to 5 days a week, supporting other students in the secondary school.

Applicants should be suitably qualified (minimum Cert III in Education Support), have previous experience in a similar Education Support role and be highly motivated.  You must have a Working with Children Card and current Police Record Check.

Learning Assistants have a broad role.  They undertake a variety of duties which mostly comprise assisting teachers and supporting students in the classroom and other educational activities, and providing attendant care and assistance to students, as required.  The position may also include some administrative or clerical tasks, and assistance with resources in a variety of school settings, such as the classroom, library and laboratories.

We would like the successful applicant to wholeheartedly join a team implementing a distinctively biblical approach to education. MECS has a strict Child Safety Policy. The safety and wellbeing of all our students is a high priority. As part of our recruitment process, MECS undertakes rigorous reference and background checking.
