General Classroom Teacher (Secondary) – 2026

POSITION OBJECTIVE

To implement/maintain the educational programme and accompanying pastoral care of students in the areas of own responsibility and the whole student body within the school.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The successful applicant will be required to work in collaboration with the teaching team to deliver quality education consistent with the policies and requirements of the Devonport Christian School, so that each child is catered for individually and appropriately.
  • To ensure that the curriculum taught, and the learning environment provided are appropriate to the philosophy and policies of Devonport Christian School. Plan and deliver teaching of Biblical perspectives integrated in each subject area, taking daily devotions lessons and Christian living studies.
  • To provide for the spiritual, emotional, social, intellectual, and physical well-being and safety of students within the context of Christian schooling. Plan and implement an educational program that caters for the learning styles and academic needs of individual students.
  • To demonstrate Christ-like behaviour, being a Christian role-model, in all relationships with any of the staff, parents, students and community members.
  • To evaluate student academic progress; keep appropriate records and prepare interim and full reports as per school policy.
  • To assist in the management of students’ behaviour with playground duty, care of furniture and property, children’s dress and maintenance of good personal relationships with students.
  • Communicate and liaise with parents. Report to parents through written reports at the end of each semester, interviews and other informal means. Being available to meet with students and parents for education-related purposes at a mutually agreed time.
  • To attend, participate in and lead morning devotions and scheduled meetings including staff meetings, common interest group meetings, professional development sessions and participate in school committees as required.
  • To attend out of hours events as required, eg. Open Days, community events, productions, Dedication Service and Celebration Service etc. as per the school calendar.
  • To provide an excellent model of organisation and presentation in the classroom.
  • To develop and maintain quality displays in the classroom and around the school.
  • To participate in the organisation of whole-school events such as sports carnivals, community events and end of year Celebration Service.
  • To use school resources effectively and wisely.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Qualifications:

  • To be able to collaborate and communicate with the Fruits of the Spirit in the Christian community, be a Christian role-model, teach Bible, Devotions, Christian Living, Transformation by Design, and develop units of work with Christian perspectives. The teacher must be a committed Christian with current references and a referee from a church or pastor.
  • The teacher must hold an appropriate educational degree and be currently registered with the Tasmanian Teachers Registration Board (TRB).
  • The teacher must hold a Working with Vulnerable People card.

PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS

The successful applicant will:

  • Be a committed Christian, being active in a local church.
  • Be a Christian role-model to DCS students, staff and community members.
  • Pray for students.
  • Be qualified and registered to teach in the state of Tasmania.
  • Commit and abide by the school Code of Conduct.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to undergo professional development and be committed to school improvement goals.
  • Show a willingness to be involved in extra-curricular activities of the school as required.
  • Show strong support for the ethos of Devonport Christian School and the Christian Education National schools’ movement.
  • The Teacher should hold the minimum of a Level 2 First Aid Certificate or be willing to obtain such certification.
  • Have demonstrated ability to use discretion with confidential and sensitive information.
  • Have the ability to develop and implement appropriate teaching strategies to facilitate student learning.

POSITION INFORMATION

  • General Classroom Teacher (Secondary), full-time and part-time. (Maths, English, Science, HaSS, Options teachers)
  • Commencing 1st January 2026 (initial 12-month position or 24-month position if relocating to state of Tasmania).
  • The position is classified under the ‘Tasmanian Independent Christian Schools (Teachers) Multi Enterprise Agreement 2025’ .
  • School is open to negotiate contribution of relocation costs if moving to the state of Tasmania.
