Contemporary/Jazz Piano Teacher

Mount Evelyn Christian School (MECS) is seeking an experience, passionate, enthusiastic and skilled piano teacher commencing as soon as possible.  This is a fixed contract until the end of the 2024 school year and could suit a new graduate or an experienced teacher.

The applicant should be suitably qualified, have previous experience in a similar role and teach in a way that keeps students motivated and well organised.  They must be able to teach piano in the genre of contemporary music, including jazz, improvisation, modern worship and other popular modern music genres. The successful applicant will be able to teach notation, theory and chord charts.

Applicants must have a Working with Children Check Card and a current Police Record Check.

We would like the successful applicant to wholeheartedly join a team implementing a distinctively Christian approach to education. Most students will be secondary, with the aim of building into the music program including VCE and VET Music.

Key selection criteria

  • Is passionate about piano and able to inspire mostly secondary students with a love and appreciation for music.
  • Experience in playing and teaching contemporary music with chords and improvisation.
  • Can bring a distinctively Christian perspective to the teaching of music.
  • Is a performer themselves and taught in schools before.
