Calderwood Christian School
The Board of Illawarra Christian Education is calling for “Expressions of Interest” from experienced and talented Christian educators for the position of Principal at Calderwood Christian School.
Calderwood Christian School is a strong, independent, co-educational, K-12 school of around 260 students, located in a delightful semi-rural part of the magnificent Illawarra region. The Calderwood Valley is 25 kms south of Wollongong.
This is an exciting opportunity to lead a well-established Christian educational community into its next phase of development. The new Principal will lead a strong, professional leadership team at Calderwood and the school is poised for an era of steady growth over the next decade. He or she will be a committed Christian with a very clear understanding of Christian Education. Strong communication skills, the ability to wisely lead and guide a competent management team and a warm, relational, community-focused leadership style are all essential to the role.
The Board operates two schools in the wider Wollongong area – Calderwood Christian School and Illawarra Christian School in Cordeaux. A recent change of structure means that both Principals will now report directly to the Board. An effective, positive working relationship with the Principal of Illawarra Christian School, Simon Lainson, is assumed, therefore, as part of the role and both Principals are supported by a central Business Office located at Calderwood Christian School.
Calderwood Christian School is a member of Christian Education National (CEN), an Australia-wide group of 55 member associations that together govern well over 80 schools of approximately 23,000 students and 2,000 teaching staff. These are schools where parents and teachers work in collaboration to prepare their children to serve God and their neighbours in the world, according to the gifts God has given them.
It is expected that the new Principal will commence in January 2020.
The successful applicant will be required to lead an educational community that in all elements of its practice reflects a Biblical worldview, encourages students in wisdom and discernment, nurtures their faith and enables their thoughtful and responsible service in the world.
The applicant should be able to demonstrate in their expression of interest, therefore, that he or she is:
- A committed follower of Jesus Christ.
- A visionary and strategic leader with a heart for and a clear understanding of Christian Education.
- Committed to building and sustaining academic excellence and educational ‘best practice’
- An experienced and successful leader
- A relational leader with strong team building and mentoring skills.
- A culture builder within the school and the wider community.
- A competent, professional manager in areas such as budgeting, staffing, planning and policy.
